Artist Statement
Artur Martirosyan’s artistic practice is a study of classical forms and the meanings embedded in them — not as quotations, but as plastic material for recoding. He recognizes the form, yet removes it from its native environment, reshapes its scale and material, and breaks its rhythm. In this way, a self-contained reality is born — one that breathes in unison with its original source, yet speaks the language of the present.
At the core of his practice lies a reflection on how cultural memory is retained within plastic form. He is drawn to the postmodern freedom of pluralism. He does not choose a single style — he assembles them into a unified field where the archaic meets the constructive geometry of the Russian avant-garde, and surreal fluidity coexists with academic clarity. This eclecticism is not an end in itself, but a tool: it allows him to speak of eternal themes — beauty, time, corporeality, memory — without regard for chronology, yet with respect for every fragment of the cultural code.
